The Wergeland Early Childhood and School Section unites projects that foster democratic competences in school and early childhood education and care.
By contributing to policy development, building partnerships and supporting networks, as well as providing training and access to educational resources and relevant research findings, the section works particularly on supporting education reforms and changes in everyday practices aiming at democratisation of curricula, governance, learning environment, pedagogies and assessment.
The section also works on school and kindergarten development, with an aim to build democratic culture of schools and early childhood education institutions.

The Wergeland Youth Section is responsible for projects that aim to strengthen young people’s confidence and trust in shared values and democratic institutions.
Through our trainings, students, teachers and educators develop competences to encourage young people’s democratic efficacy and participation on local, national and global levels. The section addresses issues such as youth participation, digital citizenship and prevention of hate speech and extremism.
We provide advice and expertise to youth policy and other key actors in the field and in research, based on our experience from practice.

The Wergeland Teacher Education and Civil Society Section supports teachers, future teachers, teacher training institutions, and NGOs in the promotion of democracy, human rights and inclusion in formal and non-formal education.
The section seeks to develop innovative and sustainable approaches to in-service and pre-service teacher training through partnerships with local and national authorities, teacher training institutes and leading higher education institutions, as well as by developing practical resources.
The section also aims to strengthen the ties among civil society organisation and other actors, thus building more resilient networks and strengthening the role and voice of civil society in the development and implementation of education for democracy and human rights.
