Senior Advisor

Darya Shut is a Senior Adviser in the Early Childhood and School Section, where she leads the project Civic Education for Change. The project aims to strengthen democratic resilience, inclusion, and active citizenship among children and young people in Polish local communities.

Before joining the Wergeland Centre, Darya worked for several years at the Directorate of Integration and Diversity and the Norwegian Directorate of Health. Her work there included strengthening the role of civil society in integration efforts, managing grants for voluntary organisations, project management, and communications. She also has international experience from an internship at the United Nations in New York and from the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI).

Darya holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Oslo, specialising in international relations and negotiations, as well as further education in project management from BI Norwegian Business School.

In addition to her professional work, Darya is active in local politics in Oslo and serves as the subject editor for contemporary Belarusian history at Store norske leksikon.

Having grown up in Belarus, I have personally experienced the many limitations imposed on people’s lives by an authoritarian regime. These experiences have given me a lifelong drive to work for democracy and freedom of expression. Everyone deserves the opportunity to shape their own lives and influence their surroundings.
