Poland

In Poland, we work to strengthen young people’s resilience to handle crisis and reinforce their ability and confidence to participate in public life.

The European Wergeland Centre has had a long history of projects and initiatives in Poland, starting with the Regional Summer Academy Programme which ran from 2010 to 2014, in partnership with the Polish Ministry of Education to promote inclusive and democratic schools.

A long-running partnership with POLIN: Museum of the History of Polish Jews started in 2015 with the establishment of “Fighting Antisemitism, Xenophobia and Racism Now!” – an exchange programme for Polish and Norwegian youth at Utøya and Warsaw.

In 2022-2023, the Centre supported the fight for gender equality in cooperation with the Center for Citizenship Education (CEO).

Through Youth for the City – City for the Youth (2022-2024) in partnership with Lublin Municipality, the Wergeland Centre fascilitated a range of activities for Norwegian, Polish and Ukrainian youth, to strengthen inclusion, solidarity and youth participation.

MUCIT: Museums as Sites of Citizenship (2025-2026) gathered museum professionals from Poland, Norway and Ukraine, to strengthen the capacities of museums to promote a culture of democracy, develop democratic competences and encourage civic participation among younger generations in Ukraine and Europe as a whole.
