Sylwia Żmijewska‑Kwiręg

Sylwia Żmijewska‑Kwiręg is an educational expert specialising in teaching and learning, assessment, collaboration among teachers and school leaders, and educational leadership. She is the Head of the Center for Citizenship Education, which implements education programmes nationwide in Poland, and is a recognised expert in civic education, the Whole School Approach, and comprehensive school change processes.

For over 25 years, Sylwia has trained and mentored teachers, school leaders, and education professionals, supporting schools in strengthening learning culture, leadership practices, and democratic school development. She is a frequent panellist and speaker at national education events, including the OSKKO Conference and the Knowledge and Development Congress, and has initiated and led development programmes and training for school principals and school governing bodies.

A former civics teacher, expert, and mentor, Sylwia brings extensive practical experience to her work. She has authored curricula, textbooks, and educational resources in the field of civic education and school development. Her publications include “Time for a School of Appreciation: Practical Approaches to Assessment as Learning” (Center for Citizenship Education), “Building School Organizational Culture with Reference to Self‑Determination Theory, or Motivation in the Practice of School Leadership” (Educational Research Institute), and “Collaboration for Learning: From Micro‑Practices to a School Work Culture” (Polish-American Freedom Foundation & University of Warsaw School of Education, Center for Citizenship Education).

Sylwia is also the author of numerous articles published in professional journals and education portals, including Dyrektor Szkoły, Głos Pedagogiczny, and Strefa Edukacji.
