Graduates in Education for Democracy

Graduation ceremony of the first 123 graduates of the Master’s program “Identity, Education, and Competences for Democratic Culture.”

On Monday, October 20, 2025, the graduation ceremony for graduates of the Master’s Program (MA) “Identity, Education and Competences for Democratic Culture” was held. The program is organized by three departments of the largest Greek University, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in collaboration with the European Wergeland Centre.

The ceremony, which was held in a hybrid format, was attended by 123 students who successfully completed their studies in the MA program within one year. The program is conducted entirely online and focuses on democratic culture, human rights, and their application in all forms of education (formal, non-formal, informal).

Greetings were given by the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Professor Dimitrios Drosos, the Director of the Master’s program, Professor Marios Koukounaras Liagkis, and the representative of the European Wergeland Centre, Angelos Valliatanos, who emphasized the importance of democratic education, dialogue, and the cultivation of the values of democratic culture in education.

The Master’s Program “Identity, Education, and Competences for Democratic Culture” aims to prepare educators and education professionals to promote democratic culture, human rights, and social cohesion with an emphasis on inclusion and intercultural understanding.

The ceremony ended on an emotional and joyful note, with warm wishes for success and creative continuity to the new graduates of the Program — new ambassadors of democratic education who inspire change and shape the world.
